Gays and lesbians are a test case for mankind

Put simply, Happy Science’s way of thinking cannot at this stage decide with absolute certainty whether same-sex love itself is good or bad. The essence of a person is their soul, with their body merely a vessel for it to inhabit. Irrespective of the gender of the bodies of people who love each other, if their souls have developed throughout their lives, they will return to heaven, and if their souls have been corrupted, they will have to reflect in Hell.

If the proportion of gays and lesbians returning to Heaven is high over the next 100 years, then God might not decide that same-sex love is bad. If same-sex love creates a lot of heartache and emotional turmoil for some reason with many people going to Hell because of that, then sanctioning same-sex love may be difficult.

The life of gays and lesbians today is, in a sense, a new test case for mankind. Judging them under religious principles created in a period when science hadn’t developed may be akin to “putting new wine into old wineskins” (Matthew 9:17).
