What does Trump want to do?

On the 13th, Trump delivered a speech during the commencement at Liberty University, a Baptist school in Virginia. It was an address filled with Trump’s secrets to success and his own personal philosophy. Below is a summary of the speech.

“Your Parents and Your Grandparents, Don’t Forget Them”

Gratitude to parents and grandparents was the first important thing Trump said in his delivery. “Never ever forget them,” he said.
He reminded the auditorium that the following day was Mother’s Day. He encouraged students to give “extra special thanks” to their mother’s, adding a personal note: “She’s looking down [from Heaven], now but I had a great mother.”

He also praised graduates who will become “warrior[s] for our country”.

“Warrior for the Truth”

Trump said that those who make history are those who strive to do the right thing with conviction.

“Then ask yourself, with . . . all the blessings that you’ve been given, what will you give back to this country and, indeed, to the world? What imprint will you leave in the sands of history? What will future Americans say we did in our brief time right here on Earth? Did we take risks? Did we dare to defy expectations? Did we challenge accepted wisdom and take on established systems?

“Nothing worth doing ever, ever, ever came easy” but those who pursue worthy goals must not get discouraged by adversity, but continue forward when you know that you are right.

“America Has Always Been the Land of Dreams Because America Is a Nation of True Believers”

Trump emphasized that “America is a nation of true believers”:

“When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth they prayed. When the founders wrote the Declaration of Independence, they invoked our creator four times, because in America we don’t worship government we worship God. That is why our elected officials put their hands on the Bible and say, ‘So help me God,’ as they take the oath of office. It is why our currency proudly declares, ‘In God we trust'”.

“Never, Ever Give Up”

“If I give you one message to hold in your hearts today, it’s this. Never, ever give up,” he said.

“There will be times in your life you’ll want to quit . . . Just never quit.” Keep saying, “I can do it. I will do it.”

He pointed to the true secret to success: “I’ve seen so many brilliant people, [but] they gave up in life . . . I’ve seen others who really didn’t have that talent or that much ability and they’re among the most successful people today in the world because they never quit and they never gave up.”

“Relish the opportunity to be an outsider. Embrace that label — being an outsider is fine . . . because it’s the outsiders who change the world and who make a real and lasting difference.”

Trump’s Political Philosophy Seen in His Speech

Trump’s speech put his religious and political philosophy in high relief.

1. Trump as the Servant of God

Trump is currently being bashed for the dismissal of former FBI director James Comey, and especially Russian relations. It is probably a projection of the suspicion that Trump is becoming a dictator. But Trump’s speech made clear his worship of God far above the government, and it also clarified his understanding that he is just the servant of God.

Just as Lord Acton once warned, “power tends to corrupt” when people forget the existence of a higher being. In fact, Trump’s actions are working towards preventing despotism; they follow more along the lines of the Founding Fathers of restoring faith and liberty.

2. Trump Aims for a Second Founding of America

Trump’s view of life that he spoke of in his speech is something he himself practices in the hope of reforming Washington, D.C. The Founding Fathers tried to think of a system of government that would avoid corruption, and achieved that ideal.

As time passed, however, Washington politics became one that sought its own interests and not the happiness of its people. Seeing this, Trump is now trying to restore the country to its former glory: a democratic republic that promises the happiness and prosperity of its people.

“But the future belongs to the dreamers, not to the critics. The future belongs to the people who follow their heart no matter what the critics say because they truly believe in their vision”, Trump said in his speech.

Trump’s dream is the revolution that will create a new age for America.
